The export price of coffee rose by between 80-100 USD per tonne from last month to 1,800 USD, the highest over the past nine years, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
As a result, the country earned 67 million USD from exporting 40,000 tonnes of coffee in September, thus bringing the country’s nine-month coffee export volume to 975,000 tonnes and turnover to 1.47 billion USD. |
The figures represented year-on-year increases of 45 percent in volume and 87 percent in value, said the General Statistics Office.
Coffee is leading agro-forestry products in terms of export revenues and is one of eight items whose export revenues exceed 1 billion USD. This is also the first time export turnover of coffee is 13 percent higher than that of rice.
The ministry forecasts that coffee exports will continue to grow as export prices are expected to keep rising (VNEconomy, 5 Oct. 07). |
